Meet Morgan Dreese

Morgan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?

Friends and Family are vital to starting any business, but even more importantly in the art industry. My start originated with a neighbor, who sang my praises to her interior designer connection. The designer in return gave me my first commissioned opportunity, and her thoughts if the painting is awful that there is a bathroom to put it in. She loved the painting of down town Richmond and commissioned me for the rest of the offices paintings. You have to have that fan base to convince their connections to give you that chance, and hopefully it blossoms from there.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My company’s name is Morgan D Studios, my name is Morgan Dreese. I am an artist, living in Greensboro, North Carolina. My speciality is taking peoples ideas, and space; and then bringing them to life on canvas. My commissions range from realism, impressionism, to abstract. Requesting my high texture speciality using different styles and mediums to create such an effect. Having received a masters in design, my love for design and art comes to life when given the challenge from each space. I have had the privilege of working with multiple interior designers, completing projects through out North Carolina and Virginia.

I do paint for myself in between each commissioned piece, and most those paintings are in the style of impressionism consisting of water or figures, I do like mixing it up and enjoy painting other subject matter.

I have completed artisan projects in regions such as Ireland, Thailand, China, and across the USA. Other highlights include invited to multiple galleries throughout the United States and have a permanent spot here in my home state of North Carolina, at the Gallery at the Grandover. Being commissioned for over 50+ paintings, the one thing that each one of my customers would say about me. This is a journey we are taking together, and know that the painting is only complete when they are happy.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source of clients are friends and family. The word of mouth has been my strongest component to gaining new cliental. New customers want that feeling of trust; and if their friends trust you, so will they. Interested buyers want that personal connection to the painting and the story that goes with it.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Not only through the word of mouth, but social media plays a major role in sales and building your reputation. Once people hear your name; then they are more likely to start investing time in your past paintings, and the ones you are continually producing. This builds the confidence in you and your product, and start to build that personal connection. So many of my cliental use references to painting that they have seen through my social media platforms.
